Depression

This news article in the New York Times adds to our discussion of depression as it further describes what depression is. The article gives additional symptoms and causes and adds various forms of depression. In addition, the New York Times article lists when to contact a medical professional and what to expect at an appointment. It also suggests self-care ways that allows a person to more accurately deal with depression on their own.

This pamphlet adds to our discussion of depression as it gives a very detailed summary of depression. It describes depression, lists the various forms of depression, lists signs and symptoms, and lists the causes that vary among males and females of all ages. The pamphlet is very informative and gives a very accurate picture of the disease.

This clip from Winnie The Pooh provides an example of how Eeyore is a depressed character. He appears to have no energy and never gets excited, even though his friends are attempting to help him find a new tail. He walks around with sad eyes and a sad voice. In addition, when Kanga gives Eeyore her version of a new tail he simply says, "It's an awful nice tail Kanga. Much nicer then the rest of me."
PTSD
After serving in World War II, Tim had trouble sleeping and was plagued with flashbacks. Such symptoms are characteristic of PTSD. This video adds to our discussion of PTSD as it briefly summarizes his struggle, his tipping point, and his recovery through seeking help offered by V.A.
    
This video features various veterans who suffered from PTSD after their service. Each had symptoms that are characteristic of this disorder. In this clip, the veterans share their post-war struggle and discuss how the V.A. enabled them to have their lives back. This video adds to our discussion of PTSD as it allows the viewer to have insight into some of the lives most affect by PTSD -our veterans.
   
     This article is an interview between reporter Alicia Sparks and PTSD survivor Michele Rosenthal. In the article, Rosenthal discusses her personal struggle with the disorder. In addition, she discusses how she believes PTSD should be portrayed in the media. This adds to our discussion of PTSD as it debriefs the reader on how PTSD is typically portrayed and how it can be correctly portrayed.
